The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall

    Reviewed by Alexis Taranto

The third and best Penderwick book brings back the beloved characters of modern times.  Though pronouncing the title is a mystery, this is a great book for all ages.  Jeanne Birdsall, author, says she has been to Point Mouette in Maine and loved it.  The following beautifully made characters include Rosalind, 13, protective and silly.  Skye negative and not usually protective, but is in this book, 12 years old.  Jeffrey, an emotional, loving friend (also 12).  Jane, another author, bursting with ideas (11).   And finally… Batty!  A friendly, cute and huggable 5 years.   I highly recommend reading books 1 and 2, The Penderwicks and The Penderwicks on Gardam Street before reading The Penderwicks at Point Mouette. It would make more sense and be more interesting.  I love this book because of its humor, action and adventure.  While the family splits up for the summer, it’s hard for everybody, especially Batty.  Hound, the Penderwicks dog, makes a surprising new friend.  It’s the neighbor’s dog, Hooever.  Alec, Hoover’s owner, is nice and friendly, and has a piano for Jeffrey.  While everyone’s having fun in Maine, including Aunt Claire, Mr. Penderwick and Ben travel to England.  Rosalind is off with a friend in New Jersey, leaving Skye, OAP (Oldest Available Penderwick).  While she’s gone, quite a few things happen.

Song of the Wanderer by Bruce Coville

    Reviewed by Amy Ruan

This book is about Cara, but she is not alone.  There are lots of characters.  There are unicorns: Moonheart, Lightfoot, Belle, Finder and the queen, Arabella Skydancer.  Others are the Squijum and the Dimblethum.  Cara has to return to earth to get her grandma.  In the end she gets back to earth.  At earth, Cara’s grandma and Cara find out that Cara’s grandma is really a unicorn.  I really liked this book.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

    Reviewed by Anonymous

Peter (main character) tries to understand his younger brother’s mishaps.  He then gets himself into some mishaps with his brother.  His mom is not happy about this punishment about his brother.  Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is part of a series of books about Fudge (the younger brother), Sheila Know-It-All and Peter.  I recommend ALL of these books!

Crystal the Snow Fairy by Daisy Meadows

    Reviewed by Natalie J.

The Heart and the Bottle by Oliver Jeffers

I liked this book because I could see what he used to draw in the pictures.  I also liked to play I spy with it, like the ship in the bottle, a rubber ducky, and a saw.   I really liked this book.
