Two candidates are on the ballot for the May 2008 election: Beth Puckett and Marge Messner.

Beth Puckett lives at 8 Filkins Street, with her husband Russ and their three children: Ryan 19, at Vermont College; Emma, 16 at FHS; and Cole, 11, at Brooks Hill. Beth is currently employed as a librarian at Fairport High School and is a founding member of the Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival.

"My true passion for Fairport Public Library began 28 years ago when I got my first job as a library page. A little over 17 years ago, my husband and I bought our home within a few blocks of the library where I was able to walk the kids to so many wonderful children’s programs, meeting many of the friends I have today.

"Wanting to give back, ten years ago, I ran for the Library Board and after a few short years on the board, even pursued a second Master’s in Library Science!

"My passion for FPL has not wavered. What I loved 28 years ago exists still today…even with all the changes in libraries. We are fortunate to have passionate staff working to offer the best services with that hometown friendly style. Heart, passion, history and experience – just a few traits I will continue to bring to the board on your behalf."

Marjorie Messner lives at 42 East Avenue and has been a Fairport resident for 6 years. She has retired as a Nurse educator and has three grown children. She has served as Vice President for the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley; and on the Board of Directors for several hospital agencies.

"As a resident of Fairport I have a responsibility to pay back for the joys and privileges I receive here and to become a volunteer. My past experiences as a Public board member and as a Nurse Educator give me a ’leg-up’ for the position as Trustee.

"During my tenure as a V.P. on the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley Board it became necessary to decrease the number of Resident Camps from 2 to 1. So all the different ramifications of a final decision were employed. Research, discussion and then decision. This complicated process was a valuable learning process for me and makes me an appropriate person for Trustee of the Fairport Public Library.

"Add to this my lifetime love of reading, a belief that a thriving, up-to-date library is a vital part of our community. Best of all, I am a member of two active book clubs!"
